If November was a whirlwind of chaos and comedy (complete with hospital visits and locked debit cards), December was… well, the calm after the storm. No dramatic family emergencies, no tech meltdowns—just a month of quiet, steady work and a house full of cats keeping me on my toes.
While nothing “headline-worthy” happened, December had its fair share of unexpected joys. It was a reminder that life doesn’t always need to be exciting to be fulfilling.
A Month in the Trenches
Most of my December was spent wrapping up projects and making plans for 2025. Think lots of keyboard clacking, tea drinking, and spreadsheet staring. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was productive—and there’s something oddly satisfying about ticking off tasks while the world slows down for the holidays.
Of course, my cats had other ideas.
Cat Chaos: The Real Stars of December
With four feline roommates, every day feels like an episode of a sitcom. December’s highlights included:
- The Great Christmas Tree Mystery: Rasputin decided the baubles were too tempting to leave alone. One moment, the tree was still; the next, it was shaking as if possessed—though we all know Rasputin was the culprit.
- Tom’s New Throne: Tom declared the cardboard tray from a large pack of Pepsi cans his new favourite spot. Despite our attempts to recycle it, he’s made it clear: the tray stays.
- Nova’s Vertical Adventures: Nova has finally found her springs, and no bookshelf is safe. This tiny acrobat has reached new heights, both literally and figuratively.
- Pudding’s Turkey Dance: As we served Christmas dinner, Pudding performed his infamous turkey dance—a festive tradition that never fails to entertain.

A Visit from Mum
December wasn’t all work and cat chaos, though. My mum came to visit for a couple of days, giving us a chance to catch up. I also set her up with a new smartphone that, fingers crossed, will make her life easier. Watching her navigate the new device reminded me of why inclusive design is so important—it’s all about creating tools that empower, not frustrate.
Finding Joy in the Ordinary
These small, silly moments were the highlights of an otherwise uneventful month. They reminded me that joy doesn’t always come from big, dramatic events—it’s often found in the little things:
- A purring cat curling up next to you during a late-night work session.
- The satisfaction of wrapping up the year’s projects.
- The quiet thrill of brainstorming new ideas for the year ahead.
Reflecting on 2024
Looking back, 2024 wasn’t the most groundbreaking year for the business. It had its share of challenges and quiet moments, but it also laid the groundwork for what’s to come. If anything, it was a year of learning and steady progress—a reminder that not every year needs to be a blockbuster to be meaningful.
Looking Ahead
As we head into 2025, I’m excited to see what the new year brings—hopefully a bit more adventure but with just as many cat cuddles. And maybe a few more baubles on the tree next year, assuming Rasputin allows it.
