Ahh yes, the age-old FAQ page, luckily for you this isn’t to sell myself and what I do to you like many companies try (and often fail) to do.
My FAQ page here is to address real questions or concerns you may have about hiring me or questions about my services.
If you have a burning question that isn’t already covered please ask me here.
No. If you have more customers than you can handle and don’t want anymore then you might not need a website. However if you want to expand the business, get more enquiries or become the go to person in your space then you should have a website.
My website packages usually range from £750 – £2000. However, it really depends on what kind of website you need and what functionality you require.
Additional functionality for a WordPress build requires plugin’s and to ensure the security of your website we don’t use free ones with limited support (or the possibility of not being updated) So the prices of licenses may increase the cost to you.
No. I only use WordPress to build websites. I used to offer services based on other platforms and static websites but not anymore. WordPress is a platform that’s easily accessible for my clients to update themselves, it’s search engine friendly and it’s easy to integrate with third party companies.
Yes. Hosting is like renting space on the internet. You’ll need to buy hosting otherwise people won’t be able to access your website.
WordPress Managed hosting can be expensive, but for the performance increases for your website it is well worth it.
Prices are typically upto £150 a year for a good WordPress host.
Siteground has special offers if you purchase your hosting in advance so you could get 3 years hosting for the not much more than 1 year with flywheel (however the price goes up dramatically after your discounted period)
The process I use to build your website takes a certain amount of time and a lot of planning and research. I DON’T use templates like many designers build your website from scratch, which means you get a unique design tailored around your business.
Yes I’ve been asked that question too. I’m typically cheaper than larger agencies because…
It usually takes about 10 weeks to build your website, if you need specialist functionality or a storefront with alot of products it may take a bit longer. Generally it only takes long time if we are still waiting on content from yourself.
Before I start working with you I like to have a bit of a chat usually on the phone (seriously I hate putting makeup on and you don’t want to see me without) This little chat gives me a feel for you as a client and whether we would be a good fit.
Once we start working together all communication will be via email, which you can also see in your awesome client portal, this portal contains all your questionnaires, feedback, contracts and email communications. So no lost documents or emails.
It really depends on what type of website you want. We’ll be able to discuss this on our discovery call. Depending on which package we agree on we could need…
Some of this might already be on the existing website, in which case it can be transferred over to the new site.
Through my design process you are asked for feedback along the way, at the start I will design you a mockup based on the information I have gathered from you. If I’m really out of touch with what you are looking for you do not have to take this any further and your deposit will be refunded. If however we get past the mock up phase of the design and you have changed your mind after signing everything off, as per our terms we will charge you based on how much of the work is completed.
I now split the payments into two, so a 50% deposit on the signing of the contract and the remaining 50% 30 days later. I used to offer longer payment terms but found these delayed the website design as clients would hold off on providing feedback of approving changes to delay payment.
No. In the past I have found that projects can take a lot longer than expected to complete. I might be waiting for information from you and this can delay the process. Sometimes these delays can take months. This is why we always invoice 30 days after the original payment. At this point I will be well on the way with your new website and you’ll be able to see the progress.
Hosting of the website is entirely up to you, however I do recommend Flywheel for WordPress Managed hosting. It also makes my life a lot easier when designing for flywheel hosting. I can include the cost of hosting for you or just transfer the billing to you when the site goes live.
However Siteground is also fantastic and you can get a really good deal on your hosting if you pay up front for 1-3 years.
Yes. I like to offer the ability for my clients to update the website themselves. This is why I use a platform called WordPress so you can add edit and delete content without paying me to do it for you.
I offer access to video training direct in your dashboard if you require it, however there is a lot of free information on the world wide web on how to manage your WordPress website
You can have an unlimited amount of pages on your website. I usually design you 3 page layouts i.e. A homepage, a blog page and an inner page. You can then use whichever layout you want for each new page you want to add.
Sadly writing content is not one of my strong points so no I would not produce the text for your website, if you are really stuck however I can put you in touch with some content writers to assist you.
If you already have a website. That’s great. This means I can build your new website whilst your other website is still live. In fact redesigns are my favorite thing, its like upscaling a tatty looking bit of furniture to make it special and unique.
Once the website has been redesigned and you are happy with it, I just swap everything over and your new website will be visible relatively quickly. If it involves moving your hosting at the same time it can take a couple of hours for your domain to update, but usually it’s around an hour.
I’m happy to launch website redesigns overnight so it won’t affect your visitors.
Yes. Your website will be fully responsive and will look great on all devices. This comes as standard and doesn’t cost any extra.
No. Websites like Facebook, Amazon and Twitter are not like standard websites. They require hundreds or thousands of hours of work just to get the website launched. Not to mention that you’ll need a team of developers on hand 24 hours a day to keep the website running smoothly.
Yes. We will purchase the images for your website. We use Shutterstock to buy professional images so that you don’t have to pay a photographer.
I provide basic On Page SEO for the most important pages of your website.
Ongoing SEO is a big commitment and we do not at the moment offer this service at the moment.
No. I only work with business owners who I can TRULY help. I don’t work with anyone and everyone just to make money. I need to be confident that we are the right fit for one another. This is why I like to have a chat with you before we start, to make sure we are going to get along well and work together effectively.
No. The type of business I run allows me to work with people anywhere in the world.
Most of my clients are local to me in the South Yorkshire area however I have worked with people in Canada and America I just alter my sleep schedule so I’m working in their timezone.
If you are in Sheffield sure I’ll take you to my favorite coffee shop for a latte and a chat. Generally, though I won’t travel outside of Sheffield to meet with clients.
Face to Face meetings aren’t required with the technology we have available, video conferencing is the way forward.
If however you really wish to meet me in person and you are outside of Sheffield I will arrange a consultation price for travel and possible accommodation depending upon the distance.
I’m happy to do this for you if you need it, although they typically aren’t included in many designer’s services It’s good to have it all done at the same time so you provide your customers with a brand-centric look across all your social media.
